Constellation League Stars of the Week (8/3 - 8/9)

LHP Anthony Vasquez, Eastern Reyes del Tigre

Vazquez made two starts last week and, with his second one, he flirted with history. Vazquez brought a no-hitter into the seventh innings (of a seven-inning game) before allowing a pair of hits in the final frame. The former Major Leaguer still ended with the first shutout in Constellation Energy League history in a 3-0 win over the Lightning Sloths. Vazquez struck out five and walked just one in his stellar Sunday-night outing.

IF Kody Clemens, Team Texas

It was a breakout week for the Tigers prospect, who went 5-for-12 with three doubles, a home run and four RBIs on the week. The youngest of the Clemens’ in the Constellation Energy League, Kody ranks fourth in the CEL with four doubles. Kody is currently rated as the Tigers’ No. 21 overall prospect, per MLB.com.

OF Courtney Hawkins, Team Skeeters

Hawkins displayed the kind of fire-power last week that made him a first-round pick in the MLB Draft and one of the most prolific power hitters to put on a Sugar Land Skeeters uniform. Hawkins went 6-for-15 (.400) with three doubles and a grand slam, also providing a walk-off single in the Skeeters’ 5-4 win over Team Texas last Thursday. Hawkins now has 11 RBIs on the season, placing him in fifth in the Constellation Energy League.

RHP Joe Weiland, Lightning Sloths

The former big leaguer helped guide the Sloths to one of their two wins on the week, allowing just one hit and striking out six over five innings of work to collect a win in a 5-3 victory over the Eastern Reyes del Tigre. Weiland followed that with eight strikeouts over a five-inning start on Sunday, against Eastern as well. Weiland currently leads active Constellation Energy League pitchers with 23 strikeouts.
