SKEETERS JASON LANE SIGNS WITH MINNESOTA

Pitcher/Outfielder to Join Twins Organization for 2013 Season

SUGAR LAND, TX – The Sugar Land Skeeters have announced that former Skeeters pitcher and outfielder Jason Lane recently signed with the Minnesota Twins organization for the 2013 season.

Lane, a former Houston Astro and World Series participant, was named the Skeeters’ 2012 Most Valuable Player following the club’s inaugural season. After joining Sugar Land in June, the left-handed starter went 9-5 with a 3.17 ERA and one complete game over 18 games (17 starts). His 110.2 innings pitched ranked first among the Skeeters staff. He also made an immediate impact from the other side of the plate, playing 61 games primarily in the outfield and hitting .275 with nine home runs during that span.

“I would like to thank the Skeeters organization for the opportunity to be a part of their first season,” said Lane. “It was another great experience in my career and a great opportunity to continue my journey back to the big leagues. From the front office, to the coaching staff, to my teammates and the fans, thank you for all the support. Sugar Land has something special with the Skeeters and I will never forget what it did for me.”

Originally selected by the Astros in the sixth round of the 1999 June Draft, Lane owns a career 11-5 record with a 3.89 ERA over 12 combined minor league seasons. At the plate, he owns a .280 average with 164 career home runs and 694 RBI. Over six Major League seasons with Houston (2002-07) and San Diego (2007), Lane also holds a .241 average in 497 career games.

“He definitely proved that he can pitch at a very high level last year. He has earned this opportunity to pitch again and be back in Major League baseball,” said Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti, who was a two-time All-Star (1988-89) and earned four Rawlings Gold Glove Awards during a 10-year Major League stint with the Twins.

Opening Day for the Sugar Land Skeeters is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2013 against the incumbent League Champion Long Island Ducks. About the Sugar Land Skeeters

The Sugar Land Skeeters, led by Manager and former Major League All-Star Gary Gaetti, play at Constellation Field, a $37 million stadium located at the intersection of State Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 90A in Sugar Land – just 20 minutes from downtown Houston.

The Skeeters play 140 regular season games (70 home, 70 away) in the Atlantic League, considered the highest level of Minor League Baseball. Atlantic League players are “Major League ready” and in the last 15 years, over 600 players have graduated from Atlantic League clubs to Major League organizations, making the League a preferred route for experienced players to be scouted by Major League Baseball.
